The writers at Get Down have shown me love for a good minute now. A couple of years back they ran a piece called What's Next that featured up-and-coming artists. I was fortunate enough to join the likes of Roscoe Umali and the homie Tad Nakamura as a Get Down up-and-comer. Here's what they thought about ...A Peaceful Riot... :
What do you get when you combine great, soulful, thick beats with a smooth, consistent, personal flow? You get one of an early candidate for one of the best albums for 2009. Getdownnn with Bambu x Fatgums A Peaceful Riot. Much like their brethren The Blue Scholars, you get a message that's more than just booty, cash, narcissism. To be honest, I haven't heard much of Bambu's previous work and at times on this album he does get a little preachy, but for the most part his rhymes and stories are a breath of fresh air. Most of the time very personal, relatable, clever sense of humor
Bambu brings it.
And don't even get me started on the beats. Gums continues to bring it. Whether or not he sticks to being a Dr. or musician (do what you love, cause we don't need a doctor who's thinking about a beat in his head while seeing a patient), he continues (hopefully) to bring the milky goodness (for our selfish pleasure)
(Sidenote: They may be up for URB's Next 100 (vote for them here), but remember who said that Gums was Next first.)
Oooo... I like this review! Keep bringing that milky goodness Gums!
